It's that type of skateboarding that lacks a certain element that makes a true skateboard enthusiast enjoy what he is watching. It's catchy, its fresh and it has all been done before yet is being seen for the first time. Sure nobody 270 noseblunted before greg lutzka, nobody could nollie big spin like cody mcentire can, but nobody ever wanted to. These guys do these tricks simply because they can make a name for themselves by doing them. Theres something un-authenitic about pop skateboarding. It's created for the money and not for the progression of the sport. Some could say that Koston invented pop skateboarding way back in the day. But comparing Koston to Greg Lutzka, is like comparing The Beatles to Sugar Ray. Eric Koston helped invent skateboarding, while Greg Lutzka milked it for anything he could get out of it. Now, I wouldn't have a problem with pop skateboarding, if it didn't have such an influence on the direction skateboarding is moving, but lets face it, more kids know who Steve Berra is, than the Gonz, and anyone who has been a part of skateboarding over the last 10 years will tell you the Gonz is a much better representation of what makes skateboarding great. Shit maybe I'm just a ranting youtube junkie(amongst other things), but I'm passionate about skating and the potential it holds. With skaters like van wastell, busenitz, alex olsen, worrest, josh anderson, brandon westgate, and others getting big, maybe skateboarding won't be ruined for future generations. What do you guys think?
